American Silver Buffalo Coins
The American Silver Buffalo Coin is characterized by an American Indian’s profile representation on its obverse, and the arc of “Liberty” across his face, while the date appears across his lower neck. On the reverse, there is a bison, with the words “United States Of America”, and the motto “In God We Trust”. “E Pluribus Unum” is the phrase that appears underneath the bison’s head, and the phrase “One Dollar” is at the bison’s feet.
Both sides of the Silver Buffalo Coins are modified versions of the Buffalo nickel, which was designed by one of America’s finest sculptors and metallic artists – James Earle Fraser. Only 500,000 of these American Silver Buffalo Coins were struck, they sold out of the issue in just a fortnight. Supplies are now limited, while they were originally offered at $33 to the general public, now they are being traded in the secondary market for as much as $100 each.
The gross weight of the American Silver Buffalo coin is around 26.73 grams, its silver content is 0.77344 oz., its composition is 90% silver and 10% alloy. With a diameter of 1.5 inches.
