American Silver Eagle Coins
The silver bullion coin of the United States is the American Silver Eagle, which has been issued since 1986, and contains 1oz of silver. These Silver Eagle coins are guaranteed by the United States government for their weight, purity, and content, since they are minted to exact specifications. The American eagle coins have quickly become very preferred by both coin collectors and bullion investors.
American silver eagle coins are offered in three primary versions by the US Mint – the regular uncirculated bullion version (available from coin dealers or authorized bullion dealers), the collectible proof version (available directly from the US Mint), and the most recent – a collected uncirculated version called the Burnished Silver Eagle. These carry the mark “W”, and are struck on burnished blanks.
This coin is considered by collectors to be the “modern Silver Dollar”, who collects the series by date. The 1995-W Silver Eagle was included in the 1995 Gold Eagle Proof Sets, and the 2006-W Reverse Proof Silver Eagle coin was included in the 2006 20th Anniversary Silver Eagle set.
