Canadian Silver Maple Leaf
The series of silver bullion coins issued by Canada are called the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf coins. These silver coins have a constant design every year, and come in 1 troy oz. of silver. There are variations to this Canadian coin – proof (1989 only), privy marks, colored maple lead, and holographic enhancement (5 coin set – 1 oz., ½ oz., ¼ oz., 1/10 oz., 1/20 oz.)
During February 2008, the market value of the Canadian silver coin was approximately 20 Canadian dollars. The purity of this silver maple leaf coin is 99.99% silver, this is the highest among other bullions which usually have 99.90% standard.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf program, all Silver Maple Leaf coins in 1999 came with a Privy Mark. According to the Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Coins (62nd edition, 2007), standard Silver Maple Leaf coins are different from their Gold and Platinum equivalents because of their generation of collector demand. The 1996 and 1997 mintings specifically fetched higher prices, because of limited pressings.
